Kitchenaid-freestanding-ice-maker-making-too-much-ice, if your kitchenaid ice maker is making too much ice check the following: check to make sure the ice maker is level check the bin sensor to make sure it is not blocked or dirty check to make sure the accelerated ice feature is not turned on. My kitchen aid ice maker (#kuia15nlhs11) is making ice too much ice and will not stop. i think it might be the ice bin thermostat...any thoughts? this is the first problem i have had with this unit so i am feeling kind of lucky!! thanks for any and all help with why it is making too much ice and..., a shutoff arm is a device that is designed to prevent too much ice being made. this is a switch with a large handle that goes over the top of the ice bin. if too much ice is made this will push the arm up and stop the production of ice. if the arm is damaged or broken then this could be a reason why too much ice is being produced..
If the icemaker won't stop making ice, that means your bin thermistor is bad and will need to be replaced. this sensor is the little white sensor attached to the right side wall inside the ice bin. below is a link to the part you'll need to order and replace, it literally takes less than 5 minutes to replace the part.
